Author Robert Jones, spoke about his book "Influential Women In Missouri History." Mr. Jones has written 45+ books on various historical topics including the many wars of the United States and ghosts towns. In 2018, he received an award from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for "Women In American History."

Mr. Capps, who is also a member of the local Martin Warren chaper, spoke to us on using Bureau of Land Management grant records and Missouri First Families, to find your Revolutionary ancestors.

He lead us on a journey around the state's historical and genealogical stops, explaining how beneficial each place could be to your research. Missouri has numerous free resources available both in libraries and online. There are also many places that allow members to access paid subscription sites.

Missouri is home to more Civil War battle than any other state. This month's presentation, by J.Y. Miller [Glasgow alderman], was about the Battle of Glasgow October 15, 1864. The Confederate victory provided the southern troops with supplies, however, heavy casualties resulting in their loss eight days later at Westport, would force General Sterling Price to withdraw his troops from Missouri.

VFW Post 2513 Commander, Teresa Shaw shared her journey to honor William S. Adams, a Johnson county WWII solider, who perished during the Battle of the Bulge. Shaw's efforts have lead to Adams' family being reunited and presented with his service medals in a ceremony coming up on October 1, 2017. They will also be placing a veteran headstone for Adams at the ceremony. All are welcome to attend.

Warrensburg native and beloved teacher, Morris Collins, brought his beautiful family tree to life, sharing about his time growing up on the boarder of Johnson and Lafayette counties, attending area schools both before and after segregation. He also talked about his love of maps and how they have been a integral part of his family history.

Mike Powers presented on his family ties to AMC's historically based television series "Turn: Washington's Spies." The drama follows the lives and events of a small group of people that started the Culper Spy ring to assist Washington in defeating the British troops during the American Revolution.

Peggy Nuckles shared letters written to Carl Baker while he stationed in New Jersey during World War I. They gave a lot of insight about Warrensburg and the surrounding area in that time frame, including: urban farming, the rise of automobiles and airplanes, and living during the spread of Spanish Influenza.
